SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya is a member of the SOS Children’s Villages International (CVI) Federation. SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya is a child-focused Non-Governmental Organization established in 1973 to provide care and support to children who have lost or are at risk of losing the care of their biological family.

The organization’s vision is “Every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect, and security and its programs are driven by the mission of “building families for children in need, helping them shape their own futures and sharing in the development of their communities”. In this regard, the organization works to reduce poverty; increase access to quality education and decent work; reduce inequalities, and build strong institutions as laid out in SDGs 1, 4,8,10, and 16.

This is done through programs that are geared towards addressing the political, economic, health, and social root causes that lead to high levels of child vulnerability and put families at risk of breaking down. The programs focus on Alternative Care, Family Strengthening, Youth Empowerment, Education, Health Care and Advocacy.

SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya implements programs in five (5) of Kenya’s 47 Counties namely Nairobi, Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, and Meru. SOS Children’s Villages. We seek to recruit suitably qualified person to fill the position of ECD School Bus Conductor & Grooming Assistant at our SOS Hermann Gmeiner Kindergarten Meru Location.

POSITION: Conductor and grooming assistant

Job Summary

Reporting to the school head, the conductor and grooming assistant will be responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of the learners during their commute. The candidate will also support teachers in the general grooming of learners throughout the day. The candidate should hold a KCSE certificate and experience in housekeeping is an added advantage. The candidate should also be flexible and willing to take on any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Boarding and Alighting: Help children safely board and alight from the bus, ensuring they are seated properly and securely.
  • Ensure Safety: Monitor the behavior of children on the bus to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
  • Interact with Children: Engage with children in a friendly and supportive manner, addressing their needs and concerns during the commute.
  • Support Teachers: Assist teachers with the general grooming of learners during the day, including helping with personal hygiene and ensuring they are well-presented.
  • General Cleanliness of the bus: Perform housekeeping tasks as needed, maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the bus and other assigned areas.
  • Communication: Maintain open communication with the bus driver, teachers, and parents to ensure the well-being of the children.
  • Adhere to Policies: Follow all school and organizational policies and procedures related to transportation and child safeguarding, and protection.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Be willing to take on any other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Age: 25 years and above.                          
  • Education: Holder of a KCSE certificate.
  • Experience: Previous experience interacting with young children is required. Housekeeping experience is an added advantage.
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to work well with children and create a positive, supportive environment.
    • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Flexibility and willingness to take on various tasks as needed.

Working Conditions:

  • The position involves working both indoors and outdoors, depending on the needs of the school.
  • The candidate should be prepared to work flexible hours, including early mornings and evenings.
